Even when he was away he always made sure to keep in touch with his loved ones.
In his early years Johnson loved to ride horses and drive cattle in the mountains with his uncles and cousins. He enjoyed hunting and providing meat to the elders. He participated in his tribal ceremonies and was very proud of his Native heritage. Johnson worked in construction. During that time he helped build the Hoopa Neighborhood Facilities Building. He played on the Hoopa All-stars Basketball team and was known as "White Shoes Johnson". Johnson loved to dance and have a good time
Johnson later met and married the love of his life Charlene Moon. They had four children: Rudolph, Francis, Dawn and Lyle "Elmo" and he always kept in touch with his daughter Dania Colegrove. Johnsons greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He always put them first and aimed to be best grandfather he could be. He was also very close to his sister Mary Traversie. They traveled to casinos regularly and ate lunch together almost every day. Johnson had many close friends and relatives whom he loved and adored. He was a friendly man and was known for his beautiful smile, laughter and gracious "hello. He lived life in the fast lane and remained an original OG to the end. He will be greatly missed but his love will forever be in our hearts.
Johnson is preceded in death by his wife Charlene Colegrove, his parents Eugene & Charlotte Colegrove, Grandparents Ned & Louisa Jackson and Francis & Ellen Colegrove, brothers Eugene "Fada" & James Colegove, sisters Helen Pratt & Agnes "Jeeps" Colegrove, grandson Issac Saxon, uncles Peter & James "Jimmy" Jackson, Alford & Frank Colegrove, aunts Minnie McWilliams, Louise Badgley, Eleanor Ames, Gifford Logan, and Helen Moore.
Johnson is survived by his children Rudolph & wife Taihvoochi Colegrove, Francis Colegrove, Dania Colegrove, Dawn Colegrove & partner Terry "Scuffs" Ballord, and Lyle "Elmo" & Elsie Moon. Sisters Mary Traverise and Cyd Colegrove. Brother Carl Colegrove Sr. Brother-in-laws Alex Pratt and Gerald Moon Sr. Sister-in-laws MaryAnn Colegrove and Silvia & husband Albert Carpenter. Aunt Muriel Jackson and uncle Jack Badgley. Grandchildren Jazzy Colegrove, April Silvia, Ann Rose Powell, Rudy Jr., Charlene & Joe Colegrove, Maisey, Tek, Michael, Victor& Stephen McCovey and Diane James, Tyler, Chloe & Terris Colegrove and Neveah Colegrove . Great grandchildren Shayde & Alece Kelly. Nephews Kevin Colegrove, Daniel Pratt, Henry McCullough, William Franks, Robert Blake, Carlyle & Don Sugi Colegrove, Eugene Fredrick Colegeove III (EFC), and Carl "Ziggy" Colegrove. Nieces Sherlette Colegrove, Darla McCullough, Carol Cuhna, Jimacia McLaughlin, Francine Traversie, Jaclyn Robinson, Carlene & Arlyss Pratt, Allison Hescock, Collette Colegrove, Sonya Reed, Cecilia "Sis" Colegrove, and Charlotte Franks. He leaves behind many other great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends to numerous to name.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday March 31st, 1:00 P.M., at the Colegrove Family Cemetery located on Tish Tang Road in Hoopa California. George Porty Blake will be officiating. Food and refreshments will follow at the Hoopa Community Center located on Loop Road.
